The Laughter الضحك

  • فَرِحَ الْمُخَلَّفُونَ بِمَقْعَدِهِمْ خِلافَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَكَرِهُواْ أَن يُجَاهِدُواْ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَقَالُواْ لاَ تَنفِرُواْ فِي الْحَرِّ قُلْ نَارُ جَهَنَّمَ أَشَدُّ حَرًّا لَّوْ كَانُوا يَفْقَهُونَ 81
  • فَلْيَضْحَكُواْ قَلِيلاً وَلْيَبْكُواْ كَثِيرًا جَزَاء بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكْسِبُونَ 82

[ التوبة  81 – 82 ] (9)

  1. Those who stayed behind rejoiced at their staying behind the Messenger of God. And they hated to strive with their wealth and their lives in God’s way. And they said, “Do not venture out in the heat.” Say, “The Fire of Hell is much hotter, if they only understood.”
  2. Let them laugh a little, and weep much; in recompense for what they used to earn.

9-AtTaubah

  • وَلَقَدْ جَاءَتْ رُسُلُنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ بِالْبُشْرَى قَالُواْ سَلامًا قَالَ سَلامٌ فَمَا لَبِثَ أَن جَاءَ بِعِجْلٍ حَنِيذٍ 69
  • فَلَمَّا رَأَى أَيْدِيَهُمْ لاَ تَصِلُ إِلَيْهِ نَكِرَهُمْ وَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً قَالُواْ لاَ تَخَفْ إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَى قَوْمِ لُوطٍ 70
  • وَامْرَأَتُهُ قَائِمَةٌ فَضَحِكَتْ فَبَشَّرْنَاهَا بِإِسْحَاقَ وَمِن وَرَاء إِسْحَاقَ يَعْقُوبَ 71
  • قَالَتْ يَا وَيْلَتَى أَأَلِدُ وَأَنَاْ عَجُوزٌ وَهَذَا بَعْلِي شَيْخًا إِنَّ هَذَا لَشَيْءٌ عَجِيبٌ 72
  • قَالُواْ أَتَعْجَبِينَ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ رَحْمَتُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ إِنَّهُ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيدٌ 73

[ هود 69 – 73 ] ( 11)

  1. Our messengers came to Abraham with good news. They said, “Peace.” He said, “Peace.” Soon after, he came with a roasted calf.
  2. But when he saw their hands not reaching towards it, he became suspicious of them, and conceived a fear of them. They said, “Do not fear, we were sent to the people of Lot.”
  3. His wife was standing by, so she laughed. And We gave her good news of Isaac; and after Isaac, Jacob.
  4. She said, “Alas for me. Shall I give birth, when I am an old woman, and this, my husband, is an old man? This is truly a strange thing.”
  5. They said, “Do you marvel at the decree of God? The mercy and blessings of God are upon you, O people of the house. He is Praiseworthy and Glorious.”

11-Hud

  • قَالُوا رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوْمًا ضَالِّينَ 106
  • رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَالِمُونَ 107
  • قَالَ اخْسَؤُوا فِيهَا وَلا تُكَلِّمُونِ 108
  • إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْ عِبَادِي يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ 109
  • فَاتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا حَتَّى أَنسَوْكُمْ ذِكْرِي وَكُنتُم مِّنْهُمْ تَضْحَكُونَ 110
  • إِنِّي جَزَيْتُهُمُ الْيَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا أَنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ 111

[ المؤمنون 106 – 111 ] (23)

  1. They will say, “Our Lord, our wretchedness prevailed over us, and we were a people astray.
  2. Our Lord! Bring us out of this. If we ever returned, we would truly be evil.”
  3. He will say, “Be despised therein, and do not speak to Me.
  4. There was a group of My servants who would say, `Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us, and have mercy on us; You are the Best of the merciful.’
  5. But you made them a target of ridicule, until they made you forget My remembrance; and you used to laugh at them.
  6. Today, I have rewarded them for their endurance. They are the ones who are the triumphant.”

23-AlMu’minun

  • وَحُشِرَ لِسُلَيْمَانَ جُنُودُهُ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالإِنسِ وَالطَّيْرِ فَهُمْ يُوزَعُونَ 17
  • حَتَّى إِذَا أَتَوْا عَلَى وَادِي النَّمْلِ قَالَتْ نَمْلَةٌ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّمْلُ ادْخُلُوا مَسَاكِنَكُمْ لا يَحْطِمَنَّكُمْ سُلَيْمَانُ وَجُنُودُهُ وَهُمْ لا يَشْعُرُونَ
  • فَتَبَسَّمَ ضَاحِكًا مِّن قَوْلِهَا وَقَالَ رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَدْخِلْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ فِي عِبَادِكَ الصَّالِحِينَ 19

[ النمل 17 – 19 ] (27)

  1. To the service of Solomon were mobilized his troops of sprites, and men, and birds—all held in strict order.
  2. Until, when they came upon the Valley of Ants, an ant said, “O ants! Go into your nests, lest Solomon and his troops crush you without noticing.”
  3. He smiled and laughed at her words, and said, “My Lord, direct me to be thankful for the blessings you have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do good works that please You. And admit me, by Your grace, into the company of Your virtuous servants.”

27-AnNaml

  • وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَى بِآيَاتِنَا إِلَى فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي رَسُولُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ 46
  • فَلَمَّا جَاءَهُم بِآيَاتِنَا إِذَا هُم مِّنْهَا يَضْحَكُونَ 47
  • وَمَا نُرِيهِم مِّنْ آيَةٍ إِلاَّ هِيَ أَكْبَرُ مِنْ أُخْتِهَا وَأَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْعَذَابِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ
  • وَقَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَ السَّاحِرُ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ إِنَّنَا لَمُهْتَدُونَ
  • فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ الْعَذَابَ إِذَا هُمْ يَنكُثُونَ 50

[ الزخرف 46 – 50 ] (43)

  1. We sent Moses with Our revelations to Pharaoh and his dignitaries. He said, “I am the Messenger of the Lord of the Worlds.”
  2. But when he showed them Our signs, they started laughing at them.
  3. Each sign We showed them was more marvelous than its counterpart. And We afflicted them with the plagues, so that they may repent.
  4. They said, “O sorcerer, pray to your Lord for us, according to His pledge to you, and then we will be guided.”
  5. But when We lifted the torment from them, they immediately broke their promise.

43-AzZukhruf

  • أَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِي صُحُفِ مُوسَى 36
  • وَإِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي وَفَّى
  • أَلاَّ تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَى
  • وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلإِنسَانِ إِلاَّ مَا سَعَى 39
  • وَأَنَّ سَعْيَهُ سَوْفَ يُرَى 40
  • ثُمَّ يُجْزَاهُ الْجَزَاءَ الأَوْفَى 41
  • وَأَنَّ إِلَى رَبِّكَ الْمُنتَهَى 42
  • وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَى
  • وَأَنَّهُ هُوَ أَمَاتَ وَأَحْيَا 44

[ النجم  36 – 44 ] (53)

  1. Or was he not informed of what is in the Scrolls of Moses?
  2. And of Abraham, who fulfilled?
  3. That no soul bears the burdens of another soul.
  4. And that the human being attains only what he strives for.
  5. And that his efforts will be witnessed.
  6. Then he will be rewarded for it the fullest reward.
  7. And that to your Lord is the finality.
  8. And that it is He who causes laughter and weeping.
  9. And that it is He who gives death and life.

53-AnNajm

  • وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُّسْفِرَةٌ 38
  • ضَاحِكَةٌ مُّسْتَبْشِرَةٌ
  • وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ
  • تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
  • أُوْلَئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ 42

[ عبس  38 – 42 ] (80)

  1. Faces on that Day will be radiant.
  2. Laughing and rejoicing.
  3. And Faces on that Day will be covered with misery.
  4. Overwhelmed by remorse.
  5. These are the faithless, the vicious.

80-Abasa

  • إِنَّ الَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا كَانُواْ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يَضْحَكُونَ 29
  • وَإِذَا مَرُّواْ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ
  • وَإِذَا انقَلَبُواْ إِلَى أَهْلِهِمُ انقَلَبُواْ فَكِهِينَ
  • وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوا إِنَّ هَؤُلاء لَضَالُّونَ
  • وَمَا أُرْسِلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَافِظِينَ
  • فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ
  • عَلَى الأَرَائِكِ يَنظُرُونَ
  • هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا يَفْعَلُونَ 36

[ المطففين 29 – 36 ] (83)

  1. Those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed.
  2. And when they passed by them, they would wink at one another.
  3. And when they went back to their families, they would go back exulting.
  4. And if they saw them, they would say, “These people are lost.”
  5. Yet they were not sent as guardians over them.
  6. But on that Day, those who believed will laugh at the unbelievers.
  7. On luxurious furnishings, looking on.
  8. Have the unbelievers been repaid for what they used to do?
