Moses and Pharaoh

Moses and Pharaoh

  1. Moses said, “O Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the Worlds.”
  2. “It is only proper that I should not say about God anything other than the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so let the Children of Israel go with me.”
  3. He said, “If you brought a miracle, then present it, if you are truthful.”
  4. So he threw his staff, and it was an apparent serpent.
  5. And He pulled out his hand, and it was white to the onlookers.
  6. The notables among Pharaoh’s people said, “This is really a skilled magician.”
  7. “He wants to evict you from your land, so what do you recommend?”
  8. They said, “Put him off, and his brother, and send heralds to the cities.”
  9. “And let them bring you every skillful magician.”

7-AlA’raf

  1. And We certainly seized the people of Pharaoh with years of famine and a deficiency in fruits that perhaps they would be reminded.
  1. But when good came to them, they said, “This is ours [by right].” And if a bad [condition] struck them, they saw an evil omen in Moses and those with him. Unquestionably, their fortune is with Allāh, but most of them do not know.
  2. And they said, “No matter what sign you bring us with which to bewitch us, we will not be believers in you.”
  3. So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood as distinct signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people.

7-Al-A‘rāf

  1. And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them in tyranny and enmity until, when drowning overtook him, he said, “I believe that there is no deity except that in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of the Muslims.”
  2. Now? And you had disobeyed [Him] before and were of the corrupters?
  3. So today We will save you in body that you may be to those who succeed you a sign. And indeed, many among the people, of Our signs, are heedless.

10-Yūnus

  1. Go to Pharaoh; He has transgressed.”
  2. He said, “My Lord, put my heart at peace for me.
  3. And ease my task for me.
  4. And untie the knot from my tongue.
  5. So they can understand my speech.
  6. And appoint an assistant for me, from my family.
  7. Aaron, my brother.
  8. Strengthen me with him.
  9. And have him share in my mission.
  10. That we may glorify You much.
  11. And remember You much.
  12. You are always watching over us.”
  13. He said, “You are granted your request, O Moses.
  14. We had favored you another time.

20-TaHa

  1. Go, you and your brother, with My signs, and do not neglect My remembrance.
  2. Go to Pharaoh. He has tyrannized.
  3. But speak to him nicely. Perhaps he will remember, or have some fear.”
  4. They said, “Lord, we fear he may persecute us, or become violent.”
  5. He said, “Do not fear, I am with you, I hear and I see.
  6. Approach him and say, `We are the messengers of your Lord; so let the Children of Israel go with us, and do not torment them. We bring you a sign from your Lord, and peace be upon him who follows guidance.
  7. It was revealed to us that the punishment falls upon him who disbelieves and turns away.’“
  8. He said, “Who is your Lord, O Moses.”
  9. He said, “Our Lord is He who gave everything its existence, then guided it.”
  10. He said, “What about the first generations?”
  11. He said, “Knowledge thereof is with my Lord, in a Book. My Lord never errs, nor does He forget.”

20-TaHa

  1. So they pursued them at sunrise.
  2. And when the two companies saw one another, the companions of Moses said, “Indeed, we are to be overtaken!”
  3. [Moses] said, “No! Indeed, with me is my Lord; He will guide me.”
  4. Then We inspired to Moses, “Strike with your staff the sea,” and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain.
  5. And We advanced thereto the pursuers.
  6. And We saved Moses and those with him, all together.
  7. Then We drowned the others.
  8. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
  9. And indeed, your Lord – He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

26-Ash-Shu‘arā’

  1. But when Moses came to them with Our signs, clear and manifest, they said, “This is nothing but fabricated magic, and We never heard of this from our ancestors of old.”
  2. Moses said, “My Lord is well aware of him who brings guidance from Him, and him who will have the sequel of the abode. The wrongdoers will not succeed.”
  3. Pharaoh said, “O nobles, I know of no god for you other than me. So fire-up the bricks for me O Hamaan, and build me a tower, that I may ascend to the God of Moses, though I think he is a liar.”
  4. He and his troops acted arrogantly in the land, with no justification. They thought they would not be returned to Us.
  5. So We seized him, and his troops, and We threw them into the sea. Observe, therefore, what was the end of the oppressors.
  6. And We made them leaders calling to the Fire. And on Resurrection Day, they will not be saved.
  7. And We pursued them in this world with a curse. And on Resurrection Day, they will be among the despised.
  8. We gave Moses the Scripture after We had annihilated the previous generations; as an illumination for mankind, and guidance, and mercy, so that they may remember.

28-AlQasas

  1. And We did certainly send Moses with Our signs and a clear authority
  2. To Pharaoh, Hāmān and Qārūn; but they said, “[He is] a magician and a liar.”
  3. And when he brought them the truth from Us, they said, “Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and keep their women alive.” But the plan of the disbelievers is not except in error.
  4. And Pharaoh said, “Let me kill Moses and let him call upon his Lord. Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion or that he will cause corruption in the land.”
  5. But Moses said, “Indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant one who does not believe in the Day of Account.”

40-Ghāfir

  1. And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, “O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see?
  2. Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear?
  3. Then why have there not been placed upon him bracelets of gold or come with him the angels in conjunction?”
  4. So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allāh].
  5. And when they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all.
  6. And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples.

43-Az-Zukhruf

  1. Has there reached you the story of Moses? –
  2. When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Tuwā,
  3. “Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.
  4. And say to him, ‘Would you [be willing to] purify yourself
  5. And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'”
  6. And he showed him the greatest sign,
  7. But Pharaoh denied and disobeyed.
  8. Then he turned his back, striving.
  9. And he gathered [his people] and called out
  10. And said, “I am your most exalted lord.”
  11. So Allāh seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression].
  12. Indeed in that is a warning for whoever would fear [Allāh].

79-An-Nāzi‘āt
