People of the Book Argue

  1. Say, “O People of the Book, come to terms common between us and you: that we worship none but God, and that we associate nothing with Him, and that none of us takes others as lords besides God.” And if they turn away, say, “Bear witness that we have submitted.”
  2. O People of the Book! Why do you argue about Abraham, when the Torah and the Gospel were not revealed until after him? Will you not reason?
  3. Here you are—you argue about things you know, but why do you argue about things you do not know? God knows, and you do not know.
  4. Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a Monotheist, a Muslim. And he was not of the Polytheists.
  5. The people most deserving of Abraham are those who followed him, and this prophet, and those who believe. God is the Guardian of the believers.
  6. A party of the People of the Book would love to lead you astray, but they only lead themselves astray, and they do not realize it.
  7. O People of the Book! Why do you reject the revelations of God, even as you witness?
  8. O People of the Book! Why do you confound the truth with falsehood, and knowingly conceal the truth?

3-Al’Imran

  1. O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion, and do not say about God except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, is the Messenger of God, and His Word that He conveyed to Mary, and a Spirit from Him. So believe in God and His messengers, and do not say, “Three.” Refrain—it is better for you. God is only one God. Glory be to Him—that He should have a son. To Him belongs everything in the heavens and the earth, and God is a sufficient Protector.
  2. The Messiah does not disdain to be a servant of God, nor do the favored angels. Whoever disdains His worship, and is too arrogant—He will round them up to Himself altogether.
  3. But as for those who believe and do good works, He will pay them their wages in full, and will increase His grace for them. But as for those who disdain and are too proud, He will punish them with an agonizing punishment. And they will find for themselves, apart from God, no lord and no savior.

4-AnNisa

  1. And his people argued with him. He said, “Do you argue with me about God, when He has guided me? I do not fear what you associate with Him, unless my Lord wills it. My Lord comprehends all things in knowledge. Will you not reconsider?
  2. And why should I fear those you associate with Him, and you do not fear associating others with God for which He sent down to you no authority? Which side is more entitled to security, if you are aware?”
  3. Those who believe, and do not obscure their faith with wrongdoing—those will have security, and they are guided.
  4. That was Our argument which We gave to Abraham against his people. We elevate by degrees whomever We will. Your Lord is Wise and Informed.

6-AlAn’am

  1. So abandon sin, outward and inward. Those who commit sins will be repaid for what they used to perpetrate.
  2. And do not eat from that over which the Name of God was not pronounced, for it is abomination. The devils inspire their followers to argue with you; but if you obey them, you would be polytheists.

6-AlAn’am

  1. Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good advice, and debate with them in the most dignified manner. Your Lord is aware of those who stray from His path, and He is aware of those who are guided.
  2. If you were to retaliate, retaliate to the same degree as the injury done to you. But if you resort to patience—it is better for the patient.
  3. So be patient. Your patience is solely from God. And do not grieve over them, and do not be stressed by their schemes.
  4. God is with those who are righteous and those who are virtuous.

16-AnNahl

  1. Among the people is he who argues about God without knowledge, and follows every defiant devil.
  2. It was decreed for him, that whoever follows him—he will misguide him, and lead him to the torment of the Blaze.

22-AlHajj

  1. For every congregation We have appointed acts of devotion, which they observe. So do not let them dispute with you in this matter. And invite to your Lord; you are upon a straight guidance.
  2. But if they dispute with you, say, “God is fully aware of what you do.”
  3. God will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection regarding what you disagree about.

22-AlHajj

  1. And do not argue with the People of the Scripture except in the best manner possible, except those who do wrong among them. And say, “We believe in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to you; and our God and your God is One; and to Him we are submissive.”
  2. Likewise, We revealed to you the Scripture. Those to whom We gave the Scripture believe in it, and some of these believe in it. None renounce Our communications except the disbelievers.
  3. You did not read any scripture before this, nor did you write it down with your right hand; otherwise the falsifiers would have doubted.
  4. In fact, it is clear signs in the hearts of those given knowledge. No one renounce Our signs except the unjust.
  5. And they said, “If only a miracle from his Lord was sent down to him.” Say, “Miracles are only with God, and I am only a clear warner.”
  6. Does it not suffice them that We revealed to you the Scripture, which is recited to them? In that is mercy and a reminder for people who believe.
  7. Say, “God suffices as witness between you and me. He knows everything in the heavens and the Earth. Those who believe in vanity and reject God—it is they who are the losers.”

29-AlAnkabut

  1. They became divided only after knowledge came to them, out of resentment among themselves. Were it not for a predetermined decision from your Lord, judgment would have been pronounced between them. Indeed, those who were made to inherit the Book after them are in grave doubt about it.
  2. To this go on inviting, and be upright as you were commanded, and do not follow their inclinations, and say, “I believe in whatever Book God has sent down, and I was commanded to judge between you equitably. God is our Lord and your Lord. We have our deeds, and you have your deeds. Let there be no quarrel between us and you. God will bring us together, and to Him is the ultimate return.”

42-AshShura
