  • [19] عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ  رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرَ مَالِ المُسْلِمِ  غَنَمٌ  يَتْبَعُ بِها شَعَفَ الجِبَالِ  ومَواقِعَ القَطْرِ  يَفِرُّ بِدِينهِ مِنَ الفِتَنْ ))

( صحيح البخاري )

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “A time will soon come when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep which he will take on the top of mountains and the places of rainfall (valleys) so as to flee with his religion from afflictions.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • [ 31 ] عَنِ الأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ؛ قَالَ : ذَهَبْتُ لأَنْصُرَ هَذَا الرَّجُلِ  فَلَقِيَنِي أَبُوبَكْرَةَ فَقَالَ :أَيْنَ تُرِيدُ ؟  قُلْتُ : أَنْصُرُ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ ؛ قال : ارْجِعْ  فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ((  إِذَا  الْتَقَى المُسْلِمَانِ بِسَيْفَيْهِمَا ؛ فَالقَاتِلُ وَالمَقْتُولُ فِي النَّارِ ؛ فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؛ هَذَا القَاتِلُ  ؛ فَمَا بَالُ المَقْتُولِ  ؟  قَالَ : إِنَّهُ كَانَ حَرِيصًا عَلَى قَتْلِ صَاحِبِهِ ))

While I was going to help this man (‘Ali Ibn Abi Talib), Abu Bakra met me and asked, “Where are you going?” I replied, “I am going to help that person.” He said, “Go back for I have heard Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) saying, ‘When two Muslims fight (meet) each other with their swords, both the murderer as well as the murdered will go to the Hell-fire.’ I said, ‘O Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)! It is all right for the murderer but what about the murdered one?’ Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  replied, “He surely had the intention to kill his companion

  • [48 ] عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ  رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : :(( سِبَابُ المُسْلِمِ فُسُوقٌ وقِتَالُهُ كُفْرٌ ))

( صحيح البخاري )

The Prophet (peace be upon him)  said, “Abusing a Muslim is Fusuq (an evil doing) and killing him is Kufr (disbelief).”

  • – عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صلي الله عليه وآله وسلم قَالَتْ : استيقظ النَّبِيُّ الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ  فقال : (( سُبْحَانَ الله مَاذَا  أُنْزِلَ اللَّيْلًةَ مِنَ الفِتَنْ  وَمَاذَا فُتِحَ مِنَ الخَزَائِنِ  أيْقِضُوا صَوَاحِبَاتِ الحُجَرِ فَرُبَّ كَاسِيَةٍ  فِي الدُّنْيَا عَارِيَةٍ  فِي الآخِرَةِ ))

( صحيح البخاري )

Narrated Um Salama

One night Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  got up and said, “Subhan Allah! How many afflictions have been descended tonight and how many treasures have been disclosed! Go and wake the sleeping lady occupants of these dwellings (his wives) up (for prayers). A well-dressed (soul) in this world may be naked in the Hereafter. ”

  • [121] عَنْ جَرِيرٍ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ لَهُ فِي حَجَّةِ الوَدَاعِ : (( اسْتِنْصِتِ النَّاسَ )) فقال : (( لا تَرجٍعُوا بَعدِي كُفَّارًا يَضْرِبُ بَعضُكُم رِقَابَ بَعْضٍ ))

Narrated Jarir

The Prophet (peace be upon him)  said to me during Hajjat-al-Wida`: Let the people keep quiet and listen. Then he said (addressing the people), “Do not (become infidels) revert to disbelief after me by striking the necks (cutting the throats) of one another (killing each other).

  • [693]  عَنْ أَنَسٍ رضي الله عنه عَنِ النَّبِيِّ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  ((  اسْمَعُوا وأَطَيعُوا  وإنْ اسْتُعْمِلَ حَبَشِيٌّ كَأَنَّ رَأسَه زَبِيبَةٌ ))

Narrated Anas

The Prophet (peace be upon him)  said, “Listen and obey (your chief) even if an Ethiopian whose head is like a raisin were made your chief.”

  • [2955]  عَنْ ابنِ عُمَرَ رضي الله عنهما عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  قَالَ (( السَّمْعُ وَالطَّاعَةُ حَقٌّ  مَا لَمْ يُؤمَرْ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ فَإِذَا أَمَرَ بِمَعْصِيَةٍ فَلا سَمْعَ وَلا طَاعَةَ  ))

Narrated Ibn `Umar

The ‘Prophet said, “It is obligatory for one to listen to and obey (the ruler’s orders) unless these orders involve one disobedience (to Allah); but if an act of disobedience (to Allah) is imposed, he should not listen to or obey it.”

  • [3060]  عن حُذَيْفَةُ رضي الله عنه  قَالَ  : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  (( اكْتُبُوا  لِي مَنْ تَلَفَّظَ بِالإسْلامِ  مِنَ النَّاسِ )) فَكَتَبْنَا  لَهُ أَلْفًا وَخَمَسَمِائةِ رَجُلٍ  فَقُلْنَا نَخَافُ وَنَحْنُ أَلْفٌ وَخَمْسُ مِائةٍ  فَلَقَدْ رَأيْتَنَا  ابْتُلِينَا حَتَّى إنِّ الرَّجُلَ  لَيُصَلِّي وَحْدَهُ وَهْوَ خَاِئفٌ .

Narrated Hudhaifa

The Prophet (peace be upon him)  said (to us), ” List the names of those people who have announced that they are Muslims.” So, we listed one thousand and five hundred men. Then we wondered, “Should we be afraid (of infidels) although we are one thousand and five hundred in number?” No doubt, we witnessed ourselves being afflicted with such bad trials that one would have to offer the prayer alone in fear

  • [3158]  عَنْ عَمْرو بنَ عَوْفٍ الانصاري  رضي الله عنه  وهو حَلِيفٌ لِبَنِي عَامِرِ بنِ لُؤَيٍّ ؛ وَكَانَ قَدْ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا : أنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم  بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَة بْنِ الجَرَّاحِ  إِلَى البَحْرَين  يَأْتِي بِجِزْيَتِهَا ؛ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم  هُوَ صَالَحَ أَهْلَ البَحْرَيْنِ وأمَّر عَلَيهِمْ العَلا بنَ الحَضْرَمِي  ؛ فَقَدِمَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ  بِمَالٍ مِنَ البَحْرَيْنِ ؛ فَسَمِعَتِ الأنْصَارُ بِقُدُومِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ؛ فَوَافَتْ صَلاةَ الصُّبْحِ  مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ؛ فَلَمَّا صًلَّى  بِهِم الفَجْرَ انْصَرَفَ ؛ فَتَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ  فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ الله  صلى  الله عليه وسلم  حِينَ رَآهُمْ  وَقَالَ (( أَظُنُّكُمْ  قَدْ سَمِعْتُمْ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيدَةَ  قَدْ جَاءَ بِشَيءٍ )) قَالُوا : أَجَلْ يَارَسُولَ الله  قال: (( فَأَبْشِرُوا وَأَمِّلُوا مَا يَسُرُّكُمْ  فَوَالله لا الفَقْرَ أَخْشَى عَلَيكُمْ وَلَكِنْ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تُبْسَطَ عَلَيْكُمُ  الدُّنْيَا كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ  فَتَنَافَسُوهَا  كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا وَتُهْلِكَكُمْ كَمَا أَهْلَكَتْهُمْ  ))

`Amr b. `Auf, who was an ally of Banu `Amir b. Luwayy (and he was one amongst them) who participated in Badr along with Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  reported that, Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  sent Abu `Ubaida b. Al-Jarrah to Bahrain for collecting Jizya and Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  had made a truce with the people of Bahrain and had appointed `Ala’ b. Hadrami and Abu `Ubaida (for this purpose). They came with wealth from Bahrain and the Ansar heard about the arrival of Abu `Ubaida and they had observed the dawn prayer along with Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him). When Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  had finished the prayer, they (the Ansar) came before him and Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  smiled as he saw them and then said:

I think you have heard about the arrival of Abu `Ubaida with goods from Bahrain. They said: Allah’s Messenger, yes, it is so. Thereupon he said: Be happy and be hopeful of that which gives you delight. By Allah, it is not the poverty about which I fear in regard to you but I am afraid in your case that (the worldly) riches way be given to you as were given to those who had gone before you and you begin to vie with one another for them as they vied for them, and these may destroy you as these destroyed them

  • [3346]   عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ  رضي الله عنه : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا فَزِعًا  يَقُولُ : (( لا إِلَهَ إِلا الله  وَيْلٌ لِلْعَرَبِ مِنْ شَرٍّ قَدِ اقْتَرَبَ  فُتِحَ اليَوْمَ مِنْ رَدْمِ يَأجُوجَ وَمَأجُوجَ  مِثْلُ هَذِهِ وَحَلَّقَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ الإبْهَامِ وَالَّتِي تَلِيهَا  َقَالَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ جَحْشٍ فَقَلْتُ : يَارَسُولَ الله أَنَهْلِكُ وَفِينَا الصَّالحُونَ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ إِذَا كَثُرَ الخَبَثُ ))

It was narrated that Zainab bint Jahsh said

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)  woke up red in the face and said: ‘La ilaha illallah, woe to the Arabs from an evil that has drawn nigh. Today a hole has been opened in the barrier of Gog and Magog.’ And he gestured to indicate the size of the hole.” Zainab said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! Will we be destroyed when there are righteous people among us?’ He said: ‘If sin and evil deeds increase.’”

  • [ 7053 ]  عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي الله عنهما  عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: ((مَنْ كَرِهَ مِنْ أَمِيرِهِ شَيْئًا  فَلْيَصْبِرْ  فَإِنَّه مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنَ السُّلْطَانِ  شِبْرًا ؛ مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً ))

( صحيح البخاري )

Narrated Ibn `Abbas

The Prophet (peace be upon him)  said, “Whoever disapproves of something done by his ruler then he should be patient, for whoever disobeys the ruler even a little (little = a span) will die as those who died in the Pre-lslamic Period of Ignorance. (i.e. as rebellious Sinners)

  • [ 7054] عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي الله عنهما  عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ: (( مَنْ رَأَى مِنْ أَمِيرِهِ  شَيْئًا يَكْرَهَهَ فَلْيَصْبِرْ عَلَيْهِ ؛ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ فَارَقَ الجَمَاعَةَ شِبْرًا  فَمَاتَ ؛ إِلا مَاتَ مِيتَةً جَاهِلِيَّةً  ))

( صحيح البخاري )

Narrated Ibn `Abbas

The Prophet (peace be upon him)  said, “Whoever notices something which he dislikes done by his ruler, then he should be patient, for whoever becomes separate from the company of the Muslims even for a span and then dies, he will die as those who died in the Pre-lslamic period of Ignorance (as rebellious sinners).

  • [7056]  عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : دَعَانَا النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  فَبَايَعْنَاه ؛ فَقَالَ  فِيمَا أَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا : أَنْ بَايَعْنَا عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ  فِي مَنْشَطِنَا وَمَكْرَهِنَا ؛ وَعُسْرِنَا وَيُسْرِنَا ؛ وَأَثَرَةً عَلَيْنَا ؛ وَأَنْ لا نُنَازِعَ الأَمْرَ أَهْلَهُ ؛ (( إِلا أَنْ تَرَوْا كفرا بَواحًا ؛ عِنْدَكُمْ مِنَ الله فِيهِ بُرْهَانٌ ))

Narrated Junada bin Abi Umaiya

We entered upon ‘Ubada bin As-Samit while he was sick. We said, “May Allah make you healthy. Will you tell us a Hadith you heard from the Prophet (peace be upon him)  and by which Allah may make you benefit?” He said, “The Prophet (peace be upon him)  called us and we gave him the Pledge of allegiance for Islam, and among the conditions on which he took the Pledge from us, was that we were to listen and obey (the orders) both at the time when we were active and at the time when we were tired, and at our difficult time and at our ease and to be obedient to the ruler and give him his right even if he did not give us our right, and not to fight against him unless we noticed him having open Kufr (disbelief) for which we would have a proof with us from Allah.”

  • [7061]  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه  قَالَ (( يَتَقَارَبُ الزَّمَانُ وَيَنْقُصُ العَمَلُ وَيُلْقَى الشُّحُّ  وَتَظْهَرُ الفِتَنْ  وَيَكْثُرُ الهَرْجُ )) قَالُوا : يَارَسُولَ الله  أَيُّمَ هُوَ ؟ قَالَ : (( القَتْلُ القَتْلُ ))

Narrated Abu Huraira

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  said, “Time will pass rapidly, good deeds will decrease, and miserliness will be thrown (in the hearts of the people), and the Harj (will increase).” They asked, “What is the Harj?” He replied, “(It is) killing (murdering), (it is) murdering (killing)

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • [7067]  عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ  رضي الله عنه  قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  يَقُولُ (( مِنْ شِرَارِ النَّاسِ مَنْ تُدْرِكْهُمُ السَّاعَةُ وَهُمْ أَحْيَاءٌ  ))

Ibn Mas`ud added

I heard Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  saying; (It will be) from among the most wicked people who will be living at the time when the Hour will be established.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • 7068]  عَنِ الزُّبِيْرِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ  قَالَ : أَتَيْنَا أَنَسَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ  رضي الله عنه  فَشَكَوْنَا إِلَيْهِ مَا نَلْقَى مِنَ الحَجَّاجِ  فَقَالَ : اصْبِرُوا  فَإِنَّهُ لا يَأتِي عَلَيْكُمْ زَمَانٌ ؛ إِلا الَّذِي بَعْدَهُ  شَرٌّ مِنْهُ حَتَّى تَلْقَوْا رَبَّكُمْ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ نَبِيِّكُمْ صلى الله عليه وسلم .

Narrated Az-Zubair bin `Adi

We went to Anas bin Malik and complained about the wrong we were suffering at the hand of Al- Hajjaj. Anas bin Malik said, “Be patient till you meet your Lord, for no time will come upon you but the time following it will be worse than it. I heard that from the Prophet.”

  •  [ 7081]  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه  قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( سَتَكُونُ فِتَنٌ  القَاعِدُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ القَائِمِ  ؛ وَالقَائِمُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ المَاشِي ؛ وَالمَاشِي فِيهَا ؛ خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّاعِي ؛ مَنْ تَشَرَّفَ لَهَا  تَسْتَشْرِفْهُ  فَمَنْ وَجَدَ مِنْهَا مَلْجَأً أَوْ مَعَاذًا فَلْيَعُذْ بِهِ ))

Narrated Abu Huraira

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)  said, “There will be afflictions (in the near future) during which a sitting person will be better than a standing one, and the standing one will be better than a walking one, and the walking one will be better than a running one, and whoever will expose himself to these afflictions, they will destroy him. So whoever can find a place of protection or refuge from them, should take shelter in it.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • [ 6611]  عَنْ أَبِي سَعَيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ رضي الله عنه  عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ (( مَا اسْتُخْلَفَ خَلِيفَةٌ إِلا لَهُ بِطَانَتَانِ : بِطَانَةٌ تَأْمُرُهُ بِالخَيْرِ وَتَحُضُّهُ عَلَيْهِ ؛ وَبِطَانَةٌ تَأْمُرُهُ بِالشَّرِّ وَتَحُضُّهُ عَلَيْهِ ؛ وَالمَعْصُومُ مَنْ عَصَمَ الله ))

( صحيح البخاري )

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri

That the Prophet (peace be upon him)  said, “No Caliph is appointed but has two groups of advisors: One group advises him to do good and urges him to adopt it, and the other group advises him to do bad and urges him to adopt it; and the protected is the one whom Allah protects.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • (4272)  عن أبي موسى  قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( أُمَّتِي هَذِهِ أُمَّةٌ مَرْحُومَةٌ  لَيْسَ عَلَيْهَا عَذَابٌ فِي الآخِرَةِ ؛ عَذَابُهَا فِي الدُّنْيَا الفِتَنُ وَالزَلازِلُ وَالقَتْلُ ))

( سنن أبي داود )

Narrated AbuMusa

The Prophet (peace be upon him)  said: This people of mine is one to which mercy is shown. It will have no punishment in the next world, but its punishment in this world will be trials, earthquakes and being killed

  • (2204)  عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى  رضي الله عنه  عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  قَالَ فِي الفِتْنَةِ ((  كَسِّرُوا فِيهَا  قَسِيَّكُمْ ؛ وَقَطِّعُوا فِيهَا أَوْتَارَكُمْ ؛ والْزَمُوا فِيهَا أَجْوَافَ بُيُوتِكُمْ  وَكُونُوا كَابْنِ آدَمَ  ))

( جامع الترمذي )

Abu Musa narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, about the Fitnah

“Break your bows during it, cut their strings and stick to the depths of your homes, and be like Adam’s son.”

  • (2217)  عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رضي الله عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم :  (( سَتَخْرُجُ نَارٌ  مِنْ حَضْرَمَوتَ – أَوْ : مِنْ نَحْوِ حَضْرَمَوْتَ – قَبْلَ يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ  تَحْشُرُ النَّاسَ ))  قَالُوا : يَارَسُولُ اللهِ فَمَا تَأمُرُنَا ؟ قَالَ : (( عَلَيْكُمْ بِالشَّامِ ))

( جامع الترمذي )

Salim bin ‘Abdullas [bin ‘Umar] narrated from his father, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said

“A fire is coming from Hadramawt- before the Day of Judgement- to gather the people.” They said: “O Messenger of Allah! What do you order us?” He said: “Stick to Ash-Sham.”

  • (2256) عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي الله عنهما  عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( مَنْ سَكَنَ البَادِيَةَ جَفَا ؛ وَمَنْ اتَّبَعَ الصَّيْدَ غَفُلْ ؛ وَمَنْ أَتَى أَبْوَابَ السُّلْطَانِ افْتَتَنْ ))

( جامع الترمذي )

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas, that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said

“Whoever resides in the deserts, he becomes ignorant, whoever follows game, he becomes heedless, and whoever comes to the door of the Sultan, he will suffer a Fitnah.”

  • (2313) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا أَعْلَمُ  لَضَحِكْتُمْ قَلِيلاً وَلَبَكَيْتُمْ كَثِيرًا ))

( الترمذي  والبخاري )

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)  said

“If you knew what I know, then you would laugh little and you would cry much.”

  • (2336) عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عِيَاضٍ  رضي الله عنه قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ  النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ (( إِنَّ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ فِتْنَةً وَفِتْنَةُ أُمَّتِي المَالُ ))

Ka’b bin ‘Iyad narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said

“Indeed there is a fitnah for every Ummah, and the Fitnah for my Ummah is wealth.”

  • (2640) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( تَفَرَّقَتِ اليَهُودُ عَلَى إِحْدَى وَسَبْعِينِ )) أَوْ (( اثْنَتَيْنِ وَسَبْعِينَ  فِرْقَةً  وَالنَّصَارَى مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ ؛ وَتَفْتَرِقُ أُمَّتِي عَلَى ثَلَاثٍ وَسَبْعِينَ فِرْقَةً ))

Narrated Abu Hurairah

that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)  said: “The Jews split into seventy-one sects, or seventy-two sects, and the Christians similarly, and my Ummah will split into seventy-three sects.”

  • (3967) عَنْ عَبْدِاللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رضي الله عنهما قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم  (( تَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌ تَسْتَنْظِفُ العَرَبَ ؛ قَتْلاهَا فِي النَّارِ ؛ اللِّسَانُ فِيهَا أَشَدُّ مِنْ وَقْعِ السَّيْفِ ))

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said

“There will be a tribulation which will utterly destroy the Arabs, and those who are slain will be in Hell. At that time the tongue will be worse than a blow of the sword.”

  • [ 2410] عن عبدالله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه  قال : سَمِعْتُ  رَجَلاً قَرَأَ آيَةً ؛ سَمِعْتُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم خِلافَهَا  فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ  فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم  فَقَالَ (( كِلاكُمَا  مُحْسِنٌ لا تَخْتَلِفُوا  فَإنَّ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمُ اخْتَلَفُوا فَهَلَكُوا  ))

Narrated Ibn Mas`ud

I heard a person reciting a (Qur’anic) Verse in a certain way, and I had heard the Prophet (peace be upon him)  reciting the same Verse in a different way. So I took him to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and informed him of that but I noticed the sign of disapproval on his face, and then he said, “Both of you are correct, so don’t differ, for the nations before you differed, so they were destroyed.”
