Jehad - Fighting for Allah Cause الجهاد

  • [36 ] عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عَنْ النَّبِيَّ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( انْتَدَبَ اللَّهُ  لِمَنْ خَرَجَ فِي سَبِيلِهِ ؛ لا يُخْرِجُهُ إِلَّا إِيمَانٌ بِي وَتَصْدِيقٌ بِرُسُلِي ؛ أَنْ أُرْجِعَهُ  بِمَا نَالَ مِنْ أَجْرٍ  أَوْ غَنِيمَةٍ ؛أَوْ أُدْخِلَهُ الجَنَّةَ ؛ وَلَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي مَا قَعَدْت خَلْفَ سَرِيَّةٍ ؛ وَلَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي أُقْتَلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ  ؛ ثُمَّ أَحْيَا ؛ ثُمَّ أُقْتَلُ ؛ ثُمَّ أَحْيَا ؛ ثُمَّ أُقْتَلُ))

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The person who participates in (Holy battles) in Allah’s cause and nothing compels him to do so except belief in Allah and His Apostles, will be recompensed by Allah either with a reward, or booty (if he survives) or will be admitted to Paradise (if he is killed in the battle as a martyr). Had I not found it difficult for my followers, then I would not remain behind any sariya going for Jihad and I would have loved to be martyred in Allah’s cause and then made alive, and then martyred and then made alive, and then again martyred in His cause.”

[1834]  عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي الله عنهما  قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَومَ افْتَتَحَ مَكَّةَ (( لا هِجْرَة وَلَكِنْ جِهَادٌ وَنِيَّةٌ وَإِذَا اسْتُنْفِرْتُمْ فَانْفِرُوا ))

Narrated Ibn `Abbas

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, on the day of the Conquest of Mecca, “There is no migration (after the Conquest), but Jihad and good intentions, and when you are called for Jihad, you should immediately respond to the call.”

  • [2786]  عن أبي سعيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ  رضي الله عنه  قَالَ : قِيلَ : يَارَسُولَ الله أَيُّ النَّاسِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم  ((مُؤمِنٌ يُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ ))  قَالُوا : ثُمَّ مَنْ ؟ قَالَ (( مُؤمِنٌ فِي شِعْبٍ مِنَ الشِّعَابِ يَتَّقِي الله  وَيَدَعُ النَّاسَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ ))

Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported

A man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said, “Who is the best among men?” He (peace be upon him) replied, “A believer who strives in the way of Allah with his wealth and life.” The man asked again, “Who is next to him (in excellence)?” He (peace be upon him) said, “Next to him is a man who is engaged in worshipping his Rubb in a mountain valley, leaving the people secure from his mischief.”

  • [2810]  عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى رضي الله عنه  قَالَ : جَاءَ  رَجُلٌ  إِلى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  فَقَالَ : الرَّجُلُ يُقَاتِلُ  لِلْمَغْنَمِ  وَالرَّجُلُ يُقَاتِلُ لِلْذِّكْرِ وَالرَّجُلُ يُقَاتِلُ لِيُرَى مَكَانُهُ  فَمَنْ فِي سَبِيلِ الله  ؟ قَالَ (( مَنْ قَاتَلَ لِتَكُونَ كَلِمةُ الله هِيَ العُلْيَا فَهُوَ فِي سَبِيلِ الله ))

Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari

A bedouin asked the Prophet, “A man may fight for the sake of booty, and another may fight so that he may be mentioned by the people, and a third may fight to show his position (i.e. bravery); which of these regarded as fighting in Allah’s Cause?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “He who fights so that Allah’s Word (i.e. Islam) should be superior, fights for Allah’s Cause.”

  • [2843] عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ  رضي الله عنه  أَنِّ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ (( مَنْ جَهَّزَ غَازِيًا  فِي سَبِيلِ الله فَقَدْ غَزا  وَمَنْ خَلَفَ غَازِيًا  فِي سَبِيلِ الله بِخَيرٍ فَقَدْ غَزَا ))

Narrated Zaid bin Khalid

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, ” He who pre pares a Ghazi going in Allah’s Cause is given a reward equal to that of) a Ghazi; and he who looks after properly the dependents of a Ghazi going in Allah’s Cause is (given a reward equal to that of) Ghazi.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بنِ سَعْدٍ  قَالَ : رَأَى سَعْدُ بنُ أبِي وَقَّاص  رضي الله عنه أَنَّ لَهُ فَضْلاً عَلَى مَنْ دُونِهِ  ؛ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( هَلْ تُنْصَرُونَ وَتُرْزَقُونَ إِلا بِضُعَفَائِكُمْ ))

Narrated Mus`ab bin Sa`d

Once Sa`d (bin Abi Waqqas) thought that he was superior to those who were below him in rank. On that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “You gain no victory or livelihood except through (the blessings and invocations of) the poor amongst you.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • [3004] عَنْ عَبْدِاللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو  رضي الله عنهما قَاَل : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَاسْتَأذَنَهُ  فِي الجِهَادِ  فَقَالَ : (( أَحَيٌّ وَالِدَاكَ )) ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ قَالَ : (( فَفِيهِمَا فَجَاهِدْ ))

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr said, “A man came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, wanting to do jihad. The Prophet asked, ‘Are your parents alive?’ ‘Yes,’ he replied. he said, ‘Then exert yourself on their behalf.'”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • [3009]  عن سهلِ بنَ سَعْدٍ  قال : قال النبي صلى الله علي وسلم يوم خيبر : (( لأُعْطِيَنَّ الرَّايَةَ غَدًا  رُجَلاً  يُفْتَحُ عَلَى يَدَيْهِ  يُحِبُّ الله وَرَسُولَهُ وَيُحِبُّه الله وَرُسولَهُ  …. )) الحديث ؛ إلى قوله (( فَوَالله لأَنْ يَهْدِي الله بِكَ رَجُلاً  خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَكَ حُمْرُ النَّعَمِ  ))

Narrated Sahl

On the day (of the battle) of Khaibar the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Tomorrow I will give the flag to somebody who will be given victory (by Allah) and who loves Allah and His Apostle and is loved by Allah and His Apostle.” So, the people wondered all that night as to who would receive the flag and in the morning everyone hoped that he would be that person. Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) asked, “Where is `Ali?” He was told that `Ali was suffering from eye-trouble, so he applied saliva to his eyes and invoked Allah to cure him. He at once got cured as if he had no ailment. The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave him the flag. `Ali said, “Should I fight them till they become like us (i.e. Muslim)?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Go to them patiently and calmly till you enter the land. Then, invite them to Islam, and inform them what is enjoined upon them, for, by Allah, if Allah gives guidance to somebody through you, it is better for you than possessing red camels

  • [3017]  عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي الله عنهما  لمَّا بَلَغَهُ أنَّ عليًّا رضي الله عنه حَرَّق قَوْمًا بَالنَّار ؛ فَقَالَ : لَوْ كُنْتُ أَنَا مَكَانَهُ  لَمْ  أُحَرِّقْهُم لأنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ (( لا تُعَذِّبُوا بِعَذَابِ الله )) وَلَقَتَلْتُهُمْ  كَمَا قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله  عليه وسلم (( مَنْ بَدَّل دِينَهُ فَاقْتُلُوهُ ))

Narrated `Ikrima

`Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn `Abbas, who said, “Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘Don’t punish (anybody) with Allah’s Punishment.’ No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, ‘If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.’ ”

  • [3065] عَنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ رضي الله عنه  عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  أَنَّه كَانَ  إِذَا ظَهَرَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ أَقَامَ  بِالعَرْصَةِ  ثَلاثَ لَيَالٍ

Narrated Abu Talha

Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) conquered some people, he would stay in their town for three days

  • (2483) عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ أَنِّ رَجُلاً  قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ الله ائْذَنْ لِي فِي السِّيَاحَةِ  قَالَ النَّبَيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ((إِنَّ سِيَاحَةَ أُمَّتِي الجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى ))

Narrated AbuUmamah

A man said: Messenger of Allah, allow tourism for me. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The tourism of my people is striving in the path of Allah, the Exalted

(Sunan Abi Dawud)

  • (2501) عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( جَاهِدُوا المُشْرِكِينَ  بَأَمْوَالِكُمْ وَأَنْفُسِكُمْ  وَأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ ))

Narrated Anas ibn Malik

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Use your property, your persons any your tongues in striving against the polytheists

  •  (2585) عَنْ جَابِرٍ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهَى أَنْ يُتَعَاطَى السَّيْفُ مَسْلُولاً

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah

The Prophet (peace be upon him) prohibited to hand the drawn sword

  • (2594) عَنْ المُهَلَّب بْنِ أَبِي صُفْرَةَ  قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  يَقُولُ (( إِنْ بُيِّتُّمْ  فَلْيَكُنْ شِعَارُكُمْ حم لا يُنْصَرُونَ ))

Narrated A man who heard the Prophet

Al-Muhallab ibn AbuSufrah said: A man who heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: If the enemy attacks you at night, let your war cry be Ha-Mim. They will not be helped

(Sunan Abi Dawud)

  • (2174) عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ رضي الله عنه : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قاَلَ (( إِنَّ مِنْ أَعْظَمِ  الجِهَادِ  كَلِمَةَ عَدْلٍ عِنْدَ سُلْطَانٍ جَائِرٍ  ))

( جامع الترمذي )

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said

“Indeed, among the greatest types of Jihad is a just statement before a tyrannical ruler.”

  • (3097) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عَنْ النَّبِيَّ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( مَنْ مَاتَ  وَلَمْ يَغْزُ ؛ ولم يُحَدِّث نَفْسَهُ بِغَزْوٍ  مَاتَ عَلَى شُعْبَةِ نِفَاقٍ ))

( سنن النسائي )

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said

“Whoever dies without having fought or thought of fighting, he dies on one of the branches of hypocrisy.”

(Sunan an-Nasa’i)

  • (3117)  عَنْ أَبِي رَيْحَانَةَ  رضي الله عنه قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ : (( حُرِّمَتْ عَيْنٌ عَلَى النَّارِ سَهِرَتْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ ))

Abu ‘Ali At-Tujibi (said) that he heard Abu Raihanah say

“I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: ‘The eye that stays awake in the cause of Allah will be forbidden to the Fire.'”

  • (3118)  عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ رضي الله عنه  قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( الغَدْوَةُ وَالرَّوْحَةُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ  عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَفْضَلُ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا ))

( سنن النسائي )

It was narrated that Sahl bin Sa’d said

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘Going out before noon or after noon, in the cause of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, is better than this world and everything in it.'”

(Sunan an-Nasa’i)

  • (3573) عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رضي الله عَنْهُمَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( الخَيْلُ فِي نَوَاصِيهَا الخَيْرُ إِلَى يَوْمِ القِيَامَةِ ))

( سنن النسائي )

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Prophet said

“There is goodness in the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection.”

(Sunan an-Nasa’i)

  • (2839) عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي الله عنهما  قَالَ : حَدَّثْنَا  الصَّعْبُ بْنُ جُثَامَةَ  رضي الله عنه قَالَ  : سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ أَهْلِ الدَّارِ مِنَ المُشْرِكِينَ  يُبَيَّتُونُ؛ فَيُصَابُ النِّسَاءُ والصِّبْيَانُ ؟  قَالَ : (( هُمْ مِنْهُمْ ))

( اخرجه ابن ماجة والبخاري ومسلم  والترمذي)

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said

“Sa’b bin Jaththamah said: ‘The Prophet (peace be upon him) was asked about the polytheists who are attacked at night, and their women and children are killed.’ He said: ‘They are from among them.’”
