  • (1080) عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (( أَرْبَعٌ مِنْ سُنَنِ المُرْسَلِينَ : الحَيَاءُ وَالتَعَطُّر وَالسِّوَاكُ وَالنِّكَاحُ ))

Abu Ayyub narrated that

The Messenger of Allah said: “Four are from the Sunan of the Messengers: Al-Hayat, using Atar, the Siwak, and marriage.”

  • (1466) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ (( تُنْكَحُ المَرْأَةُ لأَرْبَعٍ : لِمَالِهَا وَلِحَسَبِهَا  وَلِجَمَالِهَا  وَلِدِينَهَا ؛ فَاظْفَرْ بِذَاتِ الدِّينِ تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكَ ))

( البخاري ومسلم )

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)) as saying

A woman may be married for four reasons: for her property, her status. her beauty and her religion, so try to get one who is religious, may your hand be besmeared with dust

  • (1084) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم :  (( إِذَا خَطَبَ إِلَيْكُمْ مَنْ تَرْضَوْنَ دِينَهُ وَخُلُقَهُ فَزَوِّجُوهُ إِلَّا تَفْعَلُوا تَكُنْ فِتْنَةٌ فِي الأَرْضِ  وَفَسَادٌ عَرِيضٌ ))

( جامع الترمذي )

Abu Hurairah narrated that

The Messenger of Allah said: “When someone whose religion and character you are pleased with proposes to (someone under the care) of one of you, then marry to him. If you do not do so, then there will be turmoil (Fitnah) in the land and abounding discord (Fasad).”

  • (1088)  عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ الجُمَحِيُّ  قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (( فَصْلُ مَا بَيْنَ الحَرَامِ  وَالحَلَالِ الدُّفُّ  وَالصَّوْتُ ))

( جامع الترمذي )

Abu Al-Balj narrated from Muhammad bin Hatib Al-Jumahi who said that

The Messenger of Allah said: “The distinction between the lawful and the unlawful is the Duff and the voice.”

  • (1089) عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رضي الله عنها  قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم (( أَعْلِنُوا هَذَا النِّكَاحَ  واجْعَلُوهُ فِي المَسَاجِدِ  وَاضْرِبُوا عَلَيْهِ بِالدُّفُوفِ  ))

( جامع الترمذي )

Aishah narrated that

The Messenger of Allah said: “Publicize this marriage, and hold it in the Masjid, and beat the Duff for it.”

  • (1091)  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : أَنَّ النَّبَيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ إَذَا رَفَّأَ الإِنْسَانَ إِذَا تَزَوَّجَ  قَالَ :   (( بَارَكَ اللهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَليْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي الخَيْرِ ))

( جامع الترمذي )

Abu Hurairah narrated that

When supplicating for the newlywed, the Prophet would say: (Barak Allahu laka wa baraka alaik, wa jama’a bainakuma fi khair.) “May Allah bless you and send blessings upon you, and bring goodness between you.”

  • (1093) عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رضي الله عنها  قَالَتْ : تَزَوَّجَنِي  رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي شَوَّالٍ ؛ وَبَنَى بِي فِي شَوَّالٍ  وَكَانَتْ عَائِشَةُ  تَسْتَحِبُّ أَنْ يُبْنَى بِنِسَائِهَا فِي شَوَّالٍ

( جامع الترمذي )

Aishah narrated

“The Messenger of Allah married me in Shawwal, and he took up residence with me in Shawwal.”

and’ A’isha liked that the women (of her family) should enter the houses as brides during the month of Shawwal

  • (1114) عَنْ أَبِي العَجْفَاءِ السُّلِمِيِّ  قَالَ : قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الخَطَّابِ رضي الله عنه : أَلَا  لا تَغَالُوا صَدُقَةَ النِّسَاءِ ؛ فَإِنَّهَا  لَوْ كَانَتْ مَكْرُمَةً فِي الدُّنْيَا أَوْ تَقْوَى عِنْدَ اللهِ  لَكَانَ أَوْلَاكُمْ بِهَا نَبِيُّ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم . مَا عَلِمْتُ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نَكَحَ شَيْئًا مِنْ نِسَائِهِ وَلا أَنْكَحَ شَيْئًا مِنْ بَنَاتِهِ عَلَى أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ثِنْتَيْ عَشَرَةَ أُوقِيَّةً

Abu Al-Ajfa (As-Salami) said

“Umar bin Al-Khattab said: ‘Do not exaggerate in the dowries of women. If doing so was honorable in the world or Taqwa before Allah then Allah’s Prophet would have been the first of you to do it. I do not know of the Messenger of Allah marrying any of his women, nor giving any of his daughters in marriage, for more than twelve Uqiyah.”

  • ( 3369) عَنْ مَحَمَّدٍ بن حَاطِبٍ  رضي الله عنه قَال : قَالَ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (( فَصْلُ مَا بَيْنَ الحَلَالِ وَالحَرَامِ الدُّفُّ والصَّوْتُ  فِي النِّكَاحِ ))

( سنن النسائي )

It was narrated that Muhammad bin Hatib said

“The Messenger of Allah said: ‘What differentiates between the lawful and the unlawful is the Duff, and the voice (singing) for the wedding.'”

(Sunan an-Nasa’i)

  • (3371) عَنِ الحَسَنِ قَالَ : تَزَوَّجَ عَقِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ امْرَأَةً مِنْ بَنِي جَثْمٍ  فَقِيلَ لَهُ : بِالرِّفَاءِ وَالبَنِينَ  قَالَ : قُولُوا كَمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (( بَارَكَ اللهُ فِيكُمْ وَبَارَكَ لَكُمْ ))

( سنن النسائي )

It was narrated that Al-Hasan said

“Aqil bin Abi Talib married a woman from Banu Jusham, and it was said to him: ‘May you live in harmony and have many sons.’ He said: ‘Say what the Messenger of Allah said: Barak Allahu fikum, wa baraka lakum. (May Allah bless you and bestow blessings upon you.)'”
