The Prayers الصلاة

  • (82) عَنْ جَابِرٍ  رضي الله عنه قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ : (( إِنَّ بَيْنَ الرَّجُلِ وَبَيْنَ الشِّرْكِ وَالكُفْرِ تَرْكُ الصَّلاةِ ))

( صحيح مسلم )

It is narrated on the authority of Jabir that he heard the Apostle (may peace and blessings be upon him) saying. Verily between man and between polytheism and unbelief is the negligence of prayer

  • (85)  عَنْ عَبْدِالله بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ  رضي الله عنه  قَالَ : سَأَلتُ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : أَيُّ العَمَلِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ : (( الصَّلاةُ لِوَقْتِهَا )) قَالَ : قُلْتُ : ثُمَّ أَيُّ ؟ قَالَ : (( بِرُّ الوَالِدَيْن )) قَالَ : قُلْتُ  ثُمَّ أَيُّ ؟  قَالَ : (( الجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ الله )) فَمَا تَرَكْتُ أَسْتَزِيدُهُ إِلا إِرْعَاءً عَلَيْهِ

It is narrated on the authority of ‘Abdullah b. Mas’ud that he observed. I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) which deed was the best. He (the Holy Prophet) replied

Prayer at its appointed hour. I (again) said: Then what? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Kindness to the parents. I (again) said: Then what? He replied: Earnest endeavour (Jihad) in the cause of Allah. And I would have not ceased asking more questions but out of regard (for his feelings)

  • [614]  عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِاللهِ رضي الله عنهما  أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ :  اللَّهُمَّ ربِّ هذه الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ  والصَلاةِ القائمةِ آتِ محمَّدًا الوسيلةَ والفضيلةَ وابْعَثْهُ مقاماً محموداً  الذي وَعَدْتَهُ حلَّتْ لَهُ شفاعتي يوم القيامة  ))

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever after listening to the Adhan says, ‘Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-dda` watit-tammah, was-salatil qa’imah, ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wal-fadilah, wa b`ath-hu maqaman mahmudan-il-ladhi wa`adtahu’ [O Allah! Lord of this perfect call (perfect by not ascribing partners to You) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established, give Muhammad the right of intercession and illustriousness, and resurrect him to the best and the highest place in Paradise that You promised him (of)], then my intercession for him will be allowed on the Day of Resurrection”

  • [214] عَنْ أَنَسٍ رضي الله عنه قَالَ :كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَتَوَضَّأُ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلاةٍ  . قُلتُ : كَيفَ كُنتُمْ تَصنَعُونَ ؟  قَالَ :  يُجْزِىءُ أَحَدَنَا الوُضُوءُ مَا لَمْ يُحْدِث

Narrated `Amr bin `Amir

Anas said, “The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to perform ablution for every prayer.” I asked Anas, “What did you used to do?’ Anas replied, “We used to pray with the same ablution until we break it with Hadath.”

  • [212] عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رضي الله عنها أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( إذَا نَعَسَ  أَحَدُكُمْ وهو يصَلِّي  فَلْيَرْقُدْ حتَّى يَذْهَبَ عَنْهُ النَّوْمُ ؛ فإنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ إذَا صَلَّى وَهْوَ نَاعِسٌ  لا يَدْرِي لَعَلَّهُ يَسْتَغْفِرْ فَيَسُبُّ نَفْسَهُ ))

( صحيح البخاري )

Narrated `Aisha

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “If anyone of you feels drowsy while praying he should go to bed (sleep) till his slumber is over because in praying while drowsy one does not know whether one is asking for forgiveness or for a bad thing for oneself.”

  • [574 ] عن أبي موسى رضي الله عنه أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( مَنْ صَلَّى البَرْدَيْنِ دَخَلَ الجنَّةَ ))

Narrated Abu Bakr bin Abi Musa

My father said, “Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, ‘Whoever prays the two cool prayers (`Asr and Fajr) will go to Paradise.’ ”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • [597]  عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رضي الله عنه عَنِ النَّبِيِّ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( مَنْ نَسِيَ صَلاةً  فَلْيُصَلِّ إذا ذَكَرَهَا  لا كَفَّارَةَ لها إلَّا ذلك ))

( صحيح البخاري )

Qatada reported from Anas b. Malik that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said

He who forgets the prayer should say it when he remembers it, there is no explation for it, except this. Qatada said: (Allah says)” And observe prayer for remembrance of Me”

  • [90 ] عن أبي مسعود الانصاري قال : قال رَجَلٌ : يارسُولَ اللهِ لا أكَادُ أُدْرِكُ الصَّلاةَ مِمَّا يُطَوِّلُ بِنَا فُلانٌ  فَمَا رَأيتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ أَشَدَّ غَضَبًا مِنْ يَوْمِئِذٍ فقال :(( أيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّكُم مُنَفِّرُونَ فَمَنْ صَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإنَّ  فِيهِمُ المَرِيضَ وَالضَّعِيفَ وَذَا الحَاجَةِ ))

Narrated Abu Mas`ud Al-Ansari

Once a man said to Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) “O Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him)! I may not attend the (compulsory congregational) prayer because so and so (the Imam) prolongs the prayer when he leads us for it. The narrator added: “I never saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) more furious in giving advice than he was on that day. The Prophet said, “O people! Some of you make others dislike good deeds (the prayers). So whoever leads the people in prayer should shorten it because among them there are the sick the weak and the needy (having some jobs to do

  • (784) عن أبي قتادة   قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم :  (( إِنِّي لأَقُومُ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُطَوِّل فِيهَا ؛ فَأَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ ؛ فَأَتَجَوَّزُ كَرَاهِيَةَ أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمِّهِ ))

( سنن أبي داود )

Abu Qatadah reported the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) as saying

I stand up to pray and intend to prolong it; but when I hear the cry of a boy I shorten if for fear that his mother might be distressed

  • [646] عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ  رضي الله عنه أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ  الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ:  (( صلاةُ الجَمَاعَةِ  تَفْضُلُ صَلاةَ الفَذِّ بِخَمْسٍ وَعِشْرِينَ دَرَجَةً  ))

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The prayer in congregation is twenty five times superior to the prayer offered by person alone.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • [691]  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عَنْ النَّبِيَّ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( أمَا يَخْشَى أَحَدُكُمْ  – أَوْ : أَلا يَخْشَى أَحَدُكُم – إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأسَهُ قبلَ الإمام  أنْ يَجْعَلَ الله رَأسَهُ  رَأسَ حِمَارٍ )) أَوْ (( يَجْعَلَ الله صُورَتَهُ صُورَةَ حِمَار ))

Narrated Abu Huraira

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Isn’t he who raises his head before the Imam afraid that Allah may transform his head into that of a donkey or his figure (face) into that of a donkey?”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • [717]  عَنِ النُعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ  النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم   (( لَتُسَوُّنَّ صُفُوفَكُمْ أَوْ لَيُخَالِفَنَّ الله بَيْنَ وُجُوهِكُمْ ))

( صحيح البخاري )

Narrated An-Nu`man bin ‘Bashir

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Straighten your rows or Allah will alter your faces.”

(Sahih al-Bukhari)

  • [841]  عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي الله عنهما: أنَّ رَفْعَ الصَّوْتِ بِالذِّكرِ حِينَ يَنصرِفُ النَّاسُ مِنَ المكتوبَةِ  كَانَ على عَهْدِ النبيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم . وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : كُنتُ أعلمُ إذا انصَرَفُوا بذلك إذا سَمِعْتُهُ

Narrated Abu Ma`bad

(the freed slave of Ibn `Abbas) Ibn `Abbas told me, “In the lifetime of the Prophet (peace be upon him) it was the custom to celebrate Allah’s praises aloud after the compulsory congregational prayers.” Ibn `Abbas further said, “When I heard the Dhikr, I would learn that the compulsory congregational prayer had ended.”

  • (387) عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَان رضي الله عنه قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ  رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ (( المؤُذِّنُونَ أَطْوَلَ النَّاسِ أَعْنَاقًا يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ ))

Mu’awiyah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported

I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: “The Mu’adhdhinun (callers to prayer) will have the longest necks on the Day of Resurrection

  •  (827 )   عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ : قَالَ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( لا صًلاةَ بَعْدَ صَلاةِ العَصْرِ حَتَّى تَغرُبَ الشَّمْسُ  وَلا صَلاةَ بَعْدَ صَلاةِ الفَجْرِ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ ))

( صحيح مسلم )

Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying

No prayer is valid after the ‘Asr prayer till the sun sets and no prayer is valid after the dawn prayer till the sun rises

( Sahih Muslim )

  • (830)  عَنْ أَبِي بَصْرَةَ الغِفَارِي رضي الله عنه  قَالَ : صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم  العَصْرَ بِالمُخَمَّصِ فَقَالَ : (( إِنَّ هَذِهِ الصَّلاةَ عُرِضَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَضَيَّعُوهَا ؛ فَمَنْ حَافَظَ عَلَيْهَا كَانَ لَهُ أَجْرُهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ ؛ وَلا صَلَاةَ بَعْدَهَا حَتَّى يَطْلُعَ الشَّاهِدُ )) والشَّاهِدُ : النَّجْمُ

Abu Basra Ghifari reported

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) led us in the ‘Asr prayer at (the place known as) Mukhammas, and then said: This prayer was presented to those gone before you, but they lost it, and he who guards it has two rewards in store for him. And no prayer is valid after till the onlooker appears (by onlooker is meant the evening star)

  • (666)  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم  (( مَنْ تَطَهَّرَ فِي بَيْتِهِ ؛ ثُمَّ مَشَى إِلَى بَيْتٍ مِنْ بُيُوتِ الله ؛ لِيَقْضِي فَرِيضَةً مِنْ فَرَائِضِ الله ؛ كَانَتْ خُطْوَتَاهُ إِحْدَاهُمَا تَحُطُّ خَطِيئَةً ؛ وَالأُخْرَى تَرْفَعُ دَرَجَةً ))

( صحيح مسلم )

Abu Huraira reported

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be’ upon him) said: He who purified himself in his house, and then he walked to one of the houses of Allah for the sake of performing a Fard (obligatory act) out of the Fara’id (obligatory acts) of Allah, both his steps (would be significant) as one of them would obliterate his sin and the second one would raise his status

  • (667) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ وَفِي حَدِيثِ بَكْرٍ أَنَّه سَمِعَ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ : (( أَرَأَيْتُمْ  لَوْ أَنَّ نَهْراً بِبَابِ أَحَدِكُمْ  يَغْتَسِلُ مِنْهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ  هَلْ يَبْقَى مِنْ دَرَنِهِ شَيْءٌ ؟ قَالُوا : لا يَبْقَى مِنْ دَرَنِهِ شَيْءٌ . قال : (( فَذَلِكَ مِثْلُ الصَّلَوَاتِ الخَمْسِ  يَمْحُو الله بِهِنَّ الخَطَايَا ))

Narrated Abu Hurairah

that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Do you think that if there was a river by the gate of one of you, and he bathed in it five times each day that there would remain any filth on him?” They said: “No filth would stay on him.” He said: “That is the parable of the five prayers, Allah wipes out the sins with them.”

  • (671) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( أَحَبُّ البِلَادِ إِلَى الله مَسَاجِدُهَا  وَأَبْغَضُ البِلَادِ إِلى الله أَسْوَاقُهَا  ))

( صحيح مسلم )

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said

the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “The dearest parts on the face of the earth near Allah are its mosques, and the most hated parts near Allah are its markets.”

( Sahih Muslim )

  • (778) عَنْ جَابر رضي الله عنهما  قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( إِذَا قَضَى أَحَدُكُمْ الصَّلاةَ فِي مَسْجِدِهِ ؛ فَلْيَجْعَلْ لِبِيْتِهِ نَصِيبًا مِنْ صَلاتِهِ ؛ فَإِنَّ الله جَاعِلٌ فِي بَيْتِهِ مِنْ صَلاتِهِ خَيْرًا ))

( صحيح مسلم )

Jabir reported Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying

When any one of you observes prayer in the mosque he should reserve a part of his prayer for his house, for Allah would make the prayer as a means of betterment in his house

( Sahih Muslim )

  • (430) عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( يَا أَبَاذَرٍّ كَيْفَ أَنْتَ إِذَا كَانَتْ عَلَيْكَ أُمَرَاءُ يُمِيتُونَ الصَّلاةَ  أَوْ قَالَ يُؤَخِّرونَ الصَّلاةَ ؟ )) قُلْتُ : يَارَسُولَ الله فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِي  قَالَ : (( صَلِّ الصَّلاةَ لِوَقْتِهَا ؛ فَإِنْ أَدْرَكْتَهَا مَعَهُمْ فَصَلِّهَا فَإِنَّها لَكَ نَافِلَةٌ ))

( سنن أبي داود )

Abu Dharr said

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked me: ‘How will you act, Abu Dharr, when you are under rulers who kill prayer or delay it (beyond its proper time) ?’ I said: ‘Messenger of Allah, what do you command me ?’ He replied: ‘Offer the prayer at its proper time, and if you say it along with them, say it, for it will be a supererogatory prayer for you.'”

  • [(680)  صحيح مسلم ] عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ: عَرَّسْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم  فَلَمْ نَسْتَيْقِظْ حَتَّى طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ  فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( لِيَأْخُذْ كُلُّ رَجُلٍ بِرَأْسِ رَاحِلَتِهِ  فَإِنَّ هَذَا مَنْزلٌ حَضَرَنَا فِيهِ الشَّيْطَانُ )) قَالَ : فَفَعَلْنَا ؛ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِالمَاءِ فَتَوَضَّأَ ؛ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ . ( وَقَالَ يَعْقُوبُ : ثُمَّ صَلَّى سَجْدَتَيْنِ ) ؛ ثُمَّ أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاةُ فَصَلَّى الغَدَاةَ

Abu Huraira reported

We stopped for rest along with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and did not awake till the sun rose. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) then told us that everybody should take hold of his camel’s nosestring (get out of this ground) for it was the place where devil had visited us. We did accordingly. He then called for water and performed ablution and then performed two prostrations. Ya’qub said: Then he prayed (performed) two prostrations. then takbir was pronounced for prayer and then he offered the morning prayer (in congregation)

  • (432) عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ المُسَيِّبْ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ  فِي هَذَا الخَبَرِ قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم (( تَحَوَّلُوا عَنْ مَكَانِكُمِ الَّذِي أَصَابَتْكُمْ فِيهِ الغَفْلَةُ))  قَالَ : فَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا  فَأَذَّنَ ؛ وَأَقَامَ وَصَلَّى

Abu Hurairah reported

Another version of the above tradition adds: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Go away from this place of yours where inadvertence took hold of you. He then commanded Bilal who called for prayer and announced that the prayer in congregation was ready (i.e. he uttered the iqamah) and he observed prayer

  • (437) عن أبي قتادة  رضي الله عنه قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (( ليس في النوم تفريط  إنما التفريط  في اليقظة أن تؤخر صلاة حتى يدخل وقت أخرى ))

( سنن أبي داود )

Abu Qatadah reported the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) as saying

There is no remissness in sleep, it is only when one is awake that there is remissness when you delay saying the prayer till the time for the next prayer comes

(Sunan Abi Dawud)

  • (438)  عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :(( مَنْ نَسِيَ صَلاةً  فَلْيُصِلِّهَا إِذَا ذَكَرَهَا لا كَفَّارَةَ لَها إِلَّا ذَلِكَ ))

( سنن أبي داود )

Anas b. Malik reported the Prophet (peace be upon him) as saying

If any one forgets a prayer or oversleeps, he should observe it when he remembers it ; there is no expiation for it except that

  • (490)  عَنْ عَبْدِالمَلِكِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( مُرُو الصَّبِيَّ بِالصَلَاةِ  إِذَا بَلَغَ سَبْعَ سِنَينَ ؛ وَإِذَا بَلَغَ عَشْرَ سِنِينَ  فَاضْرِبُوهُ عَلَيْهَا  ))

( سنن أبي داود )

Narrated As-Saburah

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Command a boy to pray when he reaches the age of seven years. When he becomes ten years old, then beat him for prayer

  • (491) عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( مُرُوا أَوْلادَكُمْ بِالصَّلاةِ  وَهُمْ أَبْنَاءُ سَبْعِ سِنِينَ  وَاضْرِبُوهُمْ عَلَيْهَا وَهُمْ أَبْنَاءُ عَشْرٍ ؛ وَفَرِّقُوا بَيْنَهُمْ فِي المَضَاجِعِ ))

( سنن أبي داود )

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-‘As

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Command your children to pray when they become seven years old, and beat them for it (prayer) when they become ten years old; and arrange their beds (to sleep) separately

(Sunan Abi Dawud)

  • (517) عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم :  (( لا يُرَدُّ الدُّعَاءُ بَيْنَ الأَذَانِ وَالِإقَامَةِ ))

Narrated Anas ibn Malik

The supplication made between the adhan and the iqamah is not rejected

(Sunan Abi Dawud)

  • (535) عَنْ عَبْدِاللهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ  عَنْ النَّبِيَّ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( إِذَا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ  فُلُا تَقُومُوا حَتَّى تَرْوْنِي ))

Abu Qatadah reported on the authority of his father

the prophet (peace be upon him) said; When the Iqamah for prayer is pronounced, do not stand until you see me

Abu Dawud said: this has been narrated by Ayyub and Hajjaj al-Sawwaf from Yahya and Hisham al-Duatawa’i in a similar way, saying : Yahya wrote to me (in this way). And this has been narrated by Mu’awiyah b. Sallam and ‘Ali b. al-Mubarak from Yahya: “Until you see me and show tranquility”

  • (543) عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ :  (( مَا مِنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ  فِي قَرْيَةٍ وَلَا بَدْوٍ لا تُقَامُ فِيهِمُ الصَّلَاةُ إِلَّا َقَدْ اسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمْ الشَّيْطَانُ  فَعَلَيْكَ بِالجَمَاعَةِ ؛ فَإِنَّمَا يَأكُلُ الذِّئبُ القَاصِيَةَ ))

( سنن أبي داود )

Narrated AbudDarda’

I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: If there are three men in a village or in the desert among whom prayer is not offered (in congregation), the devil has got the mastery over them. So observe (prayer) in congregation), for the wolf eats only the straggling animal. Sa’ib said: By the word Jama’ah he meant saying prayer in company or in congregation

  • (563)  عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رضي الله عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( لا تَمْنَعُوا نِسَاءَكُمْ المَسَاجِدَ  وَبُيُوتُهُنَّ خَيْرٌ لًهُنَّ ))

Ibn ‘Umar reported the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) as saying; Do not prevent your women from visiting the mosque; but their houses are better for them (for praying)

  • (573) عن أبي هريرة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم  قال (( ائْتُوا الصَّلاةَ  وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّكِينَةُ  فَصَلُّوا مّا أّدْرَكْتُمْ ؛ وَاقْضُوا مَا سَبَقَكَمْ ))

Abu Hurairah reported the Prophet(peace be upon him) as saying

Come to prayer with calmness and tranquility. Then pray the part you get (long with the imam) and complete afterwards the part you miss

  • (570) عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الخُدْرِيِّ  رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أَبْصَرَ رَجَلاً يُصَلِّي وَحْدَهُ  فَقَالَ (( أَلا رَجُلٌ يَتَصَدَّقُ عَلَى هَذَا فَيُصَلِّي مَعَهُ ))

Narrated Sa’id al-Khudri

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saw a person praying alone. He said: Is there any man who may do good with this (man) and pray along with him

  • (620) عَنْ أَنَسٍ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم حَضَّهُمْ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ  وَنَهَاهُمْ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفُوا قَبْلَ انْصِرَافِهِ مِنَ الصَّلاةِ

Anas said

The prophet (peace be upon him) persuaded them to say prayer in congregation and prohibited them to leave before he goes away from the prayer

  • (632) عَنْ عَبْدِاللهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ  عَنْ أَبِيهِ  قَالَ: نَهَى رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنْ يُصَلِّى فِي لِحَافٍ  لا يَتَوَشَّحُ بِهِ ؛ والآخَرُ أَنْ تُصَلِّي فِي سَرَاوِيلَ وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ رِدَاءٌ

Narrated Buraydah ibn al-Hasib

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) prohibited us to pray in a sheet of cloth without crossing both its ends, and he also prohibited us to pray in a wrapper without putting on a sheet

  • (633) عَنْ عَبْدِاللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ  رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ : (( مَنْ أَسْبَلَ إِزَارَهُ  فِي صَلاتِهِ خُيَلاءَ ؛ فَلَيْسَ مِنَ اللهِ  فِي حِلًّ  وَلَا حَرَامٍ ))

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas’ud

I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: He who lets his garment trail during prayer out of pride, Allah, the Almighty, has nothing to do with pardoning him and protecting him from Hell

  • (635) عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ قُنْفُدٍ  عَنْ أُمِّهِ  أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ ؛ مَاذَا تُصَلِّي فِيهِ المَرْأَةُ مِنَ الثِيَابِ ؟  فَقَالَتْ : تُصَلِّي فِي الخِمَارِ وَالدِّرْعِ السَّابِغِ الَّذِي يُغَيِّبُ ظُهُورَ قَدَمَيْهَا

Zaid b. Qunfudh said that his mother asked Umm Salamah

In how many clothes should a woman pray? She replied; she would pray wearing a veil and a long shirt which covers the surface of her feet

  • (654) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ  فَلَا يَضَعْ نَعْلَيْهِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ؛ وَلَا عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ؛ فَتَكُونَ عَنْ يَمِينِ غَيْرِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ لا يَكُونَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَحَدٌ ؛ وَليَضَعْهُمَا بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ ))

Narrated AbuHurayrah

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When any of you prays, he should not place his sandals on his right side or on his left so as to be on the right side of someone else, unless no one is at his left, but should place them between his feet

  • (651) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( إَذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمْ  فَخَلَعَ نَعْلَيْهِ فَلا يُؤذِ بِهِمَا أَحَدا ؛ لِيَجْعَلْهُمَا بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ  أَوْ لِيُصَلِّ فِيهِمَا ))

Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) as saying

when any of you prays and takes off his sandals, he should not harm anyone by them. He should place them between his feet or pray with them on

  • ( 688) عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رضي الله عَنْهُمَا : أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يُصَلِّي إِلَى بَعِيرِهِ

  • (689) عَنِ المِقْدَادِ بْنِ الأَسْوَدِ  قَالَ: مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يُصَلِي إِلَى عُودٍ وَلَا عَمُودٍ  وَلَا شَجَرَةٍ إِلَّا جَعَلَهُ عَلَى حَاجِبِهِ الأيْمَنِ أَوْ الأيْسَرِ وَلَا يَصْمُدُ لَهُ صَمْدًا

Narrated Al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad

I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) praying in front of a stick, a pillar, or a tree, without having it opposite his right or left eyebrow, and not facing it directly

  • (1115)  عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رضي الله عَنْهُمَا : قَالَ :سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ  الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ:  (( إِذَا نَعَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ  وَهُوَ فِي المَسْجِدِ  فَلْيَتَحَوَّلْ مِنْ مَجْلِسِهِ ذَلِكَ إِلَى غَيْرِهِ  ))

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: When any of you dozes in the mosque (on Friday), he should change his place

  • (1250) عن أم حبيبة رضي الله عنها  قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم :(( مَنْ صَلَّى فِي يَوْمٍ ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً تَطَوُّعاً  بُنِيَ لَهُ بِهِنَّ بَيْتٌ فِي الجَنَّةِ  ))

Narrated Umm Habibah

The Prophet (peace be upon him) as saying: If anyone prays in a day and a night twelve rak’ahs voluntarily (supererogatory prayer), a house will be built from him in Paradise on account of these (rak’ahs)

  • (1250) عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رضي الله عنها  قَالَتْ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَمْ يَكُنْ  عَلَى شَيْءٍ مِنَ النَوَافِلِ أَشَدَّ مُعَاهَدَةً مِنْهُ عَلَى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ

Narrated ‘Aishah

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was more particular about observing the supererogatory rak’ahs before the dawn prayer than about observing any of the other supererogatory prayers

  • (1252) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ  الله صلى الله عليه وسلم  قَرَأَ في ركعتي الفجر ((قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ)) ؛ و ((قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ))

  • (1281)   عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رضي الله عنه عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  قَالَ : يُصْبِحُ عَلَى كُلِّ سُلامَى مِنْ ابْنِ آدَمَ صَدَقَةٌ  ؛ تَسْلِيمُهُ عَلَى مَنْ لَقِيَهُ صَدَقَةٌ ؛ وَأَمْرُهُ بِالمَعْرُوفِ صَدَقَةٌ ؛ وَنَهْيُهُ عَنِ المُنْكَرِ صَدَقَةٌ ؛ وَإِمَاطَتُهُ الأَذَى عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ صَدَقَةٌ ؛ وَبِضْعَةُ أَهْلِهِ صَدَقَةٌ  ؛ وَيُجْزِىءُ  مِنْ ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ رَكْعَتَانِ مِنَ الضُّحَى ))

Narrated Abu Dharr

The Prophet (peace be upon him) as saying: In the morning alms are due for every bone in man’s body. His salutation to everyone he meets is alms, his enjoining good is alms, his forbidding what is evil is alms, the removal of harmful thing from the way is alms, to have sexual intercourse with one’s wife if alms, and two rak’ahs which one prays in the Duha serve instead of that

  • (1283)  عن معاذ بن أنس الجهني  أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( مَنْ قَعَدَ فِي مُصَلَّاهُ حِينَ يَنْصَرِفُ مِنْ صَلاةِ الصُّبْحِ  حَتَّى يُسَبِّحَ رَكْعَتَيْ  الضُّحَى ؛ لا يَقُولُ إِلَّا خَيْرًا ؛ غُفِرَ لَهُ خَطَايَاهُ ؛ وَإِنْ كَانَتْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ زَبَدِ البَحْرِ  ))

Narrated Mu’adh ibn Anas al-Juhani

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If anyone sits in his place of prayer when he finishes the dawn prayer till he prays the two rak’ahs of the forenoon, saying nothing but what is good, his sins will be forgiven even if they are more than the foam of the sea

  • ( 1299)  عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رضي الله عنها  قَالَتْ : مَا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم العِشَاءَ قَطُّ  ؛ فَدَخَلَ عَلَيَّ إِلَّا صَلَّى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ ؛ أَوْ سِتَّ رَكَعَاتٍ ؛ وَلَقَدْ مُطِرْنَا مَرَّةً بِاللَّيْلِ ؛ فَطَرَحْنَا لَهُ نِطَعًا؛ فَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى ثُقْبٍ فِيهِ يَنْبُعُ المَاءُ مِنْهُ ؛ وَمَا رَأَيْتُهُ مُتَّقِيًا الأَرْضَ  بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ ثِيَابِهِ  قَطُّ

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu’minin

Shurayh ibn Hani said: I asked Aisha about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). She said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) never offered the night prayer and thereafter came to me but he offered four or six rak’ahs of prayer. One night the rain fell, so we spread a piece of leather (for his prayer), and now I see as if there is a hole in it from which the water is flowing. I never saw him protecting his clothes from the earth (as he did on that occasion)

Abu Barzah narrated

“The Prophet would dislike to sleep before Isha and to talk after it

  • (169) عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الخَطَّابِ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَسْمُرُ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ  فِي الأَمْرِ مِنْ أَمْرِ المُسْلِمِينَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُمَا

Umar bin Al-Khattab narrated

“Allah’s Messenger would talk during the night with Abu Bakr about matters concerning the Muslims while I was with them.”

  • 177) عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ رضي الله عنه  قَالَ :  ذَكُروا لِلْنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  نَوْمَهُمْ عَنِ الصَّلاةِ ؟ فقال : (( إِنَّه لَيْسَ فِي النَّوْمِ  تَفْرِيطٌ ؛ إِنَّمَا التَّفْرِيطُ فِي اليَقَظَةِ ؛ فَإِذَا نَسِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ صَلاةً  أَوْ نَامَ عَنْهَا فَلْيُصَلِّهَا إِذَا ذَكَرَهَا ))

Abu Qatadah narrated

“They asked the Prophet about when they sIept past the Salat. He said: ‘There is no negligence in sleep, negligence is only while one is awake. So when one of you forgets a Salat, or sleeps through it, then let him pray it when he remembers it.'”

  • (207)  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( الِإمَامُ  ضَامِنٌ وَالمُؤَذِّنُ مُؤتَمَنٌ ؛ اللَّهم ارْشِدِ الأَئِمَّةَ وَاغْفِرْ لِلْمُؤَذِّنِينَ ))

Abu Hurairah narrated that

Allah’s Messenger said: “The Imam is answerable and the Mu’adh-dhin is entrusted. O Allah! Guide the Imams and pardon the Mu’adh-dhins.”

  • (209 ) عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي العَاصِ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : إِنَّ مِنْ آخِرِ مَا عَهِدَ إِلِيَّ  رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : أَنْ اتِّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا

Uthman bin Abi Al-As narrated

“Indeed, amount the last (of orders) Allah’s Messenger ordered me with was to employ a Mu’adh-dhin who would not take a wage for his Adhan.”

  •  (211)  عَنْ جَابِرَ بنْ عَبْدِالله  رضي الله عنهما  قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (( مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ : اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلاةِ القَائِمَةِ آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الوَسِيلَةَ وَالفَضِيلَةَ  وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا  الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ ؛ إِلَّاحَلَّتْ لَهُ الشَّفَاعَةُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ ))

Jabir bin Abdullah narrated that

Allah’s Messenger said: “Whoever says, when he hears the call: (Allahumma, rabba hadhihidda ‘watit-tammati was Salatilqa’imah, ati Muhammadanil wasilata wal-Fadilata, wab’athhu Maqamun Mahmudan alladhi wa’adtahu) ‘O Allah! Lord of this perfect call and established prayer, grant Muhammad Al-Wasilah and Al-Fadilah, and raise him to the praised station that you promised him’ – then intercession on the Day of Resurrection is made lawful for him.”

  • (217) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ فِتْيَتِي أَنْ يَجْمَعُوا حُزَمَ الحَطَبِ  ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاةِ فَتُقَامَ ؛ ثُمَّ أُحَرِّقَ عَلَى أَقْوَامٍ لا يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلاةَ ))

Abu Hurairah narrated that

the Prophet said: “I was about to order my boys to collect bundles of firewood, then order Salat to be held, then burn (the homes) of the people who did not attend the Salat.”

  • (221)  عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ رضي الله عنه  قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم (( مَنْ شَهِدَ العِشَاءَ فِي جَمَاعَةٍ  كَانَ لَهُ قِيَامُ نِصْفِ لَيْلَةٍ ؛ وَمَنْ صَلَّى العِشَاءَ وَالفَجْرَ  فِي جَمَاعَةٍ كَانَ لَهُ كَقِيَامِ لَيْلَةٍ ))

Uthman bin Affan narrated that

Allah’s Messenger said: “Whoever attends Isha (prayer) in congregation, then he has (the reward as if he had) stood half of the night. And whoever prays Isha and Fajr in congregation, then he has (the reward as if he had) spend the entire night standing (in prayer).”

  • (229)  عَنْ عَبْدَالحَمِيدِ بْنَ مَحْمُودٍ  قَالَ : صَلَّيْنَا خَلْفَ أَمِيرٍ مِنَ الأُمَرَاءِ  فَاضْطَرَّنَا النَّاسُ فَصَلَّيْنَا بَيْنَ السَّارِيَتَيْنِ  فَلَمَّا صَلَّيْنَا قَالَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ رضي الله عنه : كُنَّا نَتَّقِي هَذَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم

Abdul-Hamid bin Mahmud said

“We prayed behind one of the Amirs, the people compelled us such that we prayed between two columns. When we had prayed, Anas bin Malik said: ‘We would be prevented from this during the time of Allah’s Messenger.'”

  • (231)  عَنْ وَابِصَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ  رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَجُلاً  صَلَّى خَلْفَ الصَّفِّ وَحْدَهُ  فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنْ يُعِيدَ الصَّلاةَ

Wabisah bin Ma’bad narrated

“A man prayed alone behind the row s the Prophet ordered him to repeat the Salat.”

  • (327 )  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم :  (( إِذَا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلاةُ  فَلا تَأْتُوهَا وَأَنْتُمْ تَسْعَوْنَ  ؛ وَلَكِنِ ائْتُوهَا وَأَنْتُمْ تَمْشُونُ ؛ وَعَلَيْكُمُ السَّكِينَةَ ؛ فَمَا أَدْرَكْتُمْ فَصَلُّوا ؛ وَمَا فَاتَكُمْ  فَأَتِمُّوا ))

( جامع الترمذي )

Abu Hurairah narrated that

Allah’s Messenger said: “When the Iqamah is called for Salat do not come to it rushing, rather come to it walking, and while you have tranquility. What you catch of it then pray it, and what you missed of it, then complete it.”

  • (356) عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ الحُوَيْرِثِ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ : (( مَنْ زَارَ قَوْمًا فَلا يَؤُمَّهُمْ ؛ وَلْيَؤُمَّهُمْ رَجَلٌ مِنْهُمْ ))

Malik b. al-Huwairith said:  I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: If anyone visits people, he should not lead them in prayer, but some person of them should lead the prayer

  • (407)  عَنْ سَبْرَةَ بْن ِمَعْبَدٍ الجِهَنِيِّ  رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (( عَلِّمُوا الصَّبِيَّ الصَّلاةَ  ابْنَ سَبْعٍ ؛ واضْرِبُوهُ عَلَيْهَا ابْنَ عَشْرٍ ))

(Sabrah bin Ma’bad al-Juhni) narrated that

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Teach the boy Salat when he is seven years old, and beat him (if he does not pray) when he is ten.”

  • (416) عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رضي الله عنها  قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (( رَكْعَتَا الفَجْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا فِيهَا ))

Aishah narrated that

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “The two Rak’ah of Fajr are better than the world and what is in it.”

  • (419) عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رضي الله عَنْهُمًا : أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( لا صَلاةَ بَعْدَ الفَجْرِ إِلَّا سَجْدَتَيْنِ ))

( جامع الترمذي )

Ibn Umar narrated that

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “There is no Salat after Al-Fajr (begins) except two prostrations.”

  • (423) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( مَنْ لَمْ يُصَلِّ رَكْعَتَي الفَجْرِ  فَلْيُصَلِّهِمَا بَعْدَ مَا تَطْلُعُ الشَّمْسُ ))

Abu Hurairah narrated that

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever did not pray the two Rak’ah (before) Fajr then let him pray them after the sun has risen.”

  • (424) عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُصَلِّي قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ أَرْبَعًا وَبَعْدَهَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ

Ali narrated

“The Prophet (peace be upon him) would pray four Rak’ah before Az-Zuhr and two Rak’ah after it.”

Aishah narrated

“When the Prophet (peace be upon him) would not perform the four Rak’ah before Az-Zuhr he would pray them after it.”

  • (452)  عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ حُذَافَةَ  رضي الله عنه قَالَ : خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم  فَقَالَ : (( إِنَّ الله أَمَّدَكُمْ بِصَلاةٍ  هِيَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ مِنْ حُمْرِ النَّعَمِ : الوِتْرُ ؛ جَعَلَهُ الله لَكُمْ فِيمَا بَيْنَ صَلاةِ العِشَاءِ إِلَى أَنْ يَطْلَعَ الفَجْرُ ))

Kharijab bin Hudhafah narrated

“Allah’s Messenger came out to us and he said: ‘Indeed Allah has assisted you with a Salat that is better for you than red camels: Al-Witr which Allah made for you between the Isha prayer till Al-Fajr has begun.”

  • عَنْ أُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الأُولَى مِنَ الْوَتْرِ بِـ ‏((‏ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى ‏))‏ وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِـ ‏((‏ قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ ‏))‏ وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ بِـ ‏((‏ قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ‏))

It was narrated that Ubayy bin Ka’b said

“In the first rak’ah of witr, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to recite: “GLorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High;” in the second; “Say: O you disbelievers!” and in the third; “Say: He is Allah, (the) One.”

  • (2620) عَنْ عَبْدِالله بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ  قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم (( العَهْدَ الَّذِي بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمُ الصَّلاةُ  فَمَنْ تَرَكَهَا فَقَدْ كَفَرَ ))

Narrated Abdullah bin Buraidah narrated from his father

that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “The covenant between us and them is the Salat, so whoever abandons it he has committed disbelief.”

  • (465)  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ  الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :(( إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَا يُحَاسَبُ بِهِ العَبْدُ يَوْمَ القِيَامَةِ  صَلاتُهُ ؛ فَإِنْ  وُجِدَتْ تَامَّةً  ؛ كُتِبَتْ تَامَّةً ؛ وَإِنْ كَانَ انْتَقَصَ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ قَالَ : انْظُرُوا  هَلْ تَجِدُونَ لَهُ مِنْ تَطَوُّعٍ  ؟  يُكَمِّلُ لَهُ مَا ضَيَّعَ مِنْ فَرِيضَةٍ  مِنْ تَطَوُّعِهِ ؛ ثُمَّ سَائِرُ الأَعْمَالِ تَجْرِي عَلَى حَسَبِ ذَلِكَ ))

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said

“The first thing for which a person will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be his Salah. If it is found to be complete then it will be recorded as complete, and if anything is lacking He will say: ‘Look and see if you can find any voluntary prayers with which to complete what he neglected of his obligatory prayers.’ Then the rest of his deeds will be reckoned in like manner.”

(Sunan an-Nasa’i)

  • (930)  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( إذَا قَالَ أَحَدُكُمْ آمِينْ وَقَالَتْ الملائِكَةُ فِي السَّمَاءِ آمِين ؛ فَوَافَقَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا الأُخْرَى  ؛ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّم مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ  ))

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “If any one of you says: ‘Amin’ and the angels in Heaven say Amin, and the one coincides with the other, his previous sins will be forgiven.”

  • (951) عَنْ عَبْدِاللهِ بْنِ مُغًفَّلٍ رضي الله عنه  عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم  قَالَ : (( يَقْطَعُ الصَّلاةَ  المَرْأَةُ وَالكَلْبُ وَالحِمَارُ ))

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Mughaffal that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said

“The prayer is severed by a woman, a dog and a donkey.”

  • (976) عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَمْسَحُ مَنَاكِبَنَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ  وَيَقُولُ (( لا تَخْتَلِفُوا فَتَخْتَلِفَ قُلوبُكُمْ ؛ لِيَلِينِي مِنْكُمْ أُولُوا الأَحْلامِ  وَالنُّهَى ؛ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ؛ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ))

It was narrated that Abu Mas’ud Al-Ansari said

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to gently pat our shoulders (to make sure the row was straight) at the time of prayer, saying: ‘Keep (the rows) straight, do not differ from one another lest your hearts should suffer from discord. Let those who are forbearing and wise stand closest to me, then those who are next to them, then those who are next to them.’”

  • (984) عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ : يَارَسُولَ الله إِنِّي لأَتَأَخَّرُ فِي صَلَاةِ الغَدَاةِ مِنْ أَجْلِ فُلانٍ  لَمِا يُطِيلُ بِنَا فِيهَا قَالَ :  فَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُول اللهِ  صلى الله عليه وسلم قَطُّ فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ أَشَدَّ غَضَبًا مِنْهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ : (( يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُنَفِّرِينَ  فَأَيُّكُم مَا صَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُجَوِّزْ  فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الضَّعِيفَ وَالكَبِيرَ وَذَا الحَاجَةِ  ))

It was narrated that Abu Mas’ud said

“A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! I stay behind and do not perform the morning prayer (in congregation) because of so-and-so, for he makes it too long for us.’ I never saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) preaching with such anger as he did that day. He said; ‘O people! There are among you those who repel others. Whoever among you leads others in prayer, let him keep it short, for among them are those who are weak and elderly, and those who have pressing needs.’”

  • (997) عَنِ البَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ (( إِنَّ اللهَ وَمَلائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى الصَّفِّ الأَوَّلِ ))

It was narrated from Ibrahim bin ‘Abdur-Rahman bin ‘Awf that his father said

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘Allah and the angels send blessings upon the first row.’”

  • (998) عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي الصَّفِّ الأَوَّلِ لَكَانَتْ قُرْعَةٌ  ))

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘If they knew what (goodness) there is in the first row, they would cast lots for it.’”

  • (1040) عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي الله عنهما قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : (( أُمِرْتُ أَنْ لا أَكُفَّ شَعَرًا وَلَا ثَوْبًا ))

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbas said

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “I was commanded not to tuck up my hair or my garment.”*

  • عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ “‏ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَسْجُدَ عَلَى سَبْعَةٍ، لاَ أَكُفُّ شَعَرًا وَلاَ ثَوْبًا ‏”‏‏‏

(صحيح البخاري )

Narrated Ibn `Abbas

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “I have been ordered to prostrate on seven (bones) and not to tuck up the hair or garment.”

 (Sahih Bukhari)

  • (1045) عَنْ جَابِرَ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ  رضي الله عنه : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ  الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ :  (( لَيِنْتَهِيَّنَّ أَقْوَامٌ يَرْفَعُونَ أَبْصَارَهُمْ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ أَوْ لا تَرْجِعُ أَبْصَارُهُمْ ))

It was narrated from Jabir bin Samurah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said

“Let those who lift their gaze to the heavens desist, or their sight will not come back.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah)

  • عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏ لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ أَقْوَامٌ يَرْفَعُونَ أَبْصَارَهُمْ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فِي الصَّلاَةِ أَوْ لاَ تَرْجِعُ إِلَيْهِمْ ‏”‏

(صحيح مسلم)

Jabir b. Samura reported

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The people who lift their eyes towards the sky in Prayer should avoid it or they would lose their eyesight

  • (1427)  عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه عَنِ النَّبِيَّ  الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ إَذَا صَلَّى أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ أَوْ عَنْ  يَمِينِهِ أَوْ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ  )) يعني السبحة

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said

“Is anyone of you incapable, when he prays, of stepping forwards or backwards, or to his right or left?” meaning in order to offer a voluntary prayer

  • (1428) عَنِ المُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ رضي الله عنه أَنَّ رَسُولَ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ : (( لا يُصَلِّي الِإمَامُ فِي مُقَامِهِ الَّذِي صَلَّى فِيهِ المَكْتُوبةَ حَتَّى يَتَنَحَّى عَنْهُ ))

It was narrated from Al-Mughirah bin Shu’bah that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said

“The Imam should not pray in the place where he offered the obligatory prayer, until he moves aside.” Another chain from Mughirah, from the Prophet (peace be upon him) with similar wording

  • (1429)  عَنْ عَبْدِالرَّحَمَنِ بْنِ شِبْلٍ رضي الله عنه  قَالَ : نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَنْ ثَلاثٍ : عَنْ نَقْرَةِ الغُرَابِ ؛ وَعَنْ فَرْشَةِ السَّبُعِ ؛ وَأَنْ يُوطِنَ الرَّجُلُ المَكَانَ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي فِيهِ كَمَا يُوطِنُ البَعِيرُ

It was narrated that ‘Abdur-Rahman bin Shibl said

“The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade three things: Pecking like a crow, spreading (the forearms) like a beast of prey, and a man having a place in the mosque in which he usually offers the prayer, like a camel has a place to which it usually goes.”
