Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar
The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade the making of vows and said, “It (a vow) does not prevent anything (that has to take place), but the property of a miser is spent (taken out) with it.”

It was narrated from ‘Aishah that the Messenger of Allah said
“Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him.”

Allah’s Mssenger (peace be upon him) said: “The atonement for a vow (Nadhr) is (the same as) the atonement an oath (Yamin).” [Reported by Muslim]. at-Tirmidhi added, “If he did not specify it.” [And he graded it Sahih (authentic)]
